2012 City of Evanston Budget Update
The City Council finished the majority of its work on the budget late Tuesday night, November 15, 2011 and is set to approve the FY 2012 budget at the November 28, 2011 meeting.
Highlights:
- Increased parking meter rates by $0.25 citywide. This change will be implemented by February 1, 2012.
- Increased parking fines by $5.00 for all violations except for parking meter expirations, effective April 1, 2012.
- Increased fees for refuse carts to be implemented by February 1, 2012: 1). Increased small refuse cart fee by $1.00 to $7.95; and 2). Increased large refuse cart fee by $4.00 to $14.95.
- Removal from layoff list: Four Forestry Worker III positions in the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department.
- Declined the proposed 3% property tax increase to fund City operations.
- Reduced the proposed recreation fee increases by $150,000.
- Adjusted 2012 revenue projections for the athletic contest tax and the real estate transfer tax.
All other charges included in the “FY 2012 Budget Reduction Worksheet” will now be included in the final budget. Of the changes in the “Potential Additional Reductions” worksheet, the following items were approved:
- Elimination of Zoning Planner Position (vacant).
- Transfer cost of ticket collection agency fee to violators.
