Graffiti Offender Arrested
At about 3:20 a.m. Monday, November 7 Evanston Police officers were able to arrest a subject for numerous political graffiti messages that started appearing on or near train viaducts this past summer.
Evanston Police tactical team officers and officers assigned to the field operations division began surveillance on Evanston train viaducts for the METRA train line after political graffiti messages began reappearing in spray paint over the last several weeks. The original pattern began back in July of this year and had several political messages regarding immigration issues in the United States were spray painted on the viaduct walls.
At approximately just after 2 a.m. in the morning, an Evanston Police Officer on surveillance observed a subject spray painting the wall at Lincoln Ave. & Greenbay Road. The officer attempted to apprehend the subject who fled on foot and eluded the officer. While checking the area, officers were able to locate a vehicle nearby that was registered to another area of Evanston. Officers learning this information set up surveillance on the vehicle’s residence and observed a subject approaching matching the description of the subject who earlier fled from the officer. Officers were then able to detain this subject who was positively identified by the originating officer who observed the spray painting at Lincoln Ave. and Greenbay Road. At that time, the subject was placed into custody and transported to the Evanston Police Department.
