Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl named November 28, 2011 “Red and White Day” in the city of Evanston in honor of the Evanston North Shore Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. and their continued contributions to the city. More than 30 members were presented with an award at the November 28th city council meeting. The award announced the chapter’s accomplishments and the city’s thanks.

The chapter was established in 1975 and since then they have been providing programs and projects devoted to youth development, civic consciousness, and strong physical health. With the implementation of their Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence (EMBODI), Delta Academy and Delta Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully (GEMS) initiatives, the Evanston North Shore Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. has had a positive impact on the Evanston community at large. They also conduct annual events that encourage Diabetes and Breast Cancer Awareness.

In addition to their social and civic efforts, the Evanston North Shore Alumnae Chapter also offers economic and educational support to the community through a scholarship awards program. The chapter also provides food and clothing to the Family Focus community center and school supplies to schools in District 65. They have had such a large impact on the Evanston community and the positive difference they have helped to create has been amazing.

Congratulations to the Evanston North Shore Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc. for their continued success and thank you for their continued support and dedication to the city of Evanston and its residents.
