Holiday Eco Happenings

Posted on Thursday Dec 08, 2011 in Sustainability

The holiday season is a great time to consider supporting the sustainability of our local economy by looking to local sources for food, gifts and entertainment. There are many opportunities around Evanston to shop, eat and entertain locally, including a few highlighted below.

Find Gifts at the Fleetwood-Jourdain Holiday Bazaar
Stop by the third annual Holiday Bazaar to pick up those perfect gifts for the upcoming holidays, special birthdays or just for yourself! Goods expected to be displayed and sold include purses, books, clothes, fragrances and jewelry. This event will be held at the Fleetwood-Jourdain Center located at 1655 Foster Street in Evanston from 8am – 3pm. Sponsored by the Evanston Recreation Division, this event is free and open to the public.

Get Local at the Indoor Farmer & Artisan Food Market
A new indoor farmer and artisan food market is now open weekly at the Evanston Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Blvd., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays from Dec. 3 through April 28, except for Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. This market extends the farmers' selling season for local fresh produce and gives them an opportunity to add value to their produce by making and selling sauces, pickling products, soups and salsas. The market also provides local food artisans with a place to sell their products.

Enjoy a Night Out - Sustainable Wine Event and Tasting
Come learn about sustainable wines and support a local business during Citizens' Greener Evanston's holiday Green Drinks meeting titled Got Wine? - Sustainable, Organic, Biodynamic wine tasting. This event will be held on December 13, 2011 at Vinic’s located at 1509 Chicago Avenue. The cost is $8 and space is limited. Learn more and reserve your spot today here>>>
