Evanston Police Investigate Pedestrian Accident
On today's date, February 27th at approximately 11:05 AM, Evanston Police responded to a pedestrian involved traffic accident at Central St. and Greenbay Rd.
Officers on scene determined that a male pedestrian age 56 was walking eastbound in the south crosswalk of Central St. when a vehicle turned southbound onto Greenbay Rd. from westbound Central St. striking the pedestrian. The pedestrian was taken with life threatening injuries to Evanston/North Shore University Hospital for treatment.
Members of the North Regional Major Crime Task Force - Major Crash Assistance Team (NORTAF-MCAT) were called out to assist traffic officers of the Evanston Police Department. The investigation is on-going and no charges or citations have been filed against the 69 year old driver at this time.
No other information is available at this time due to the pending investigation.
Update:
On today's date, February 28th, the Evanston Police Department issued the driver involved in this accident, a 69 year old female resident of Skokie, a citation for Failure to Yield to Pedestrian in a Crosswalk. The pedestrian that was struck, is a 56 year old male resident of Evanston and currently is in critical but stable condition.
