Exciting New Green Film Series at the Ecology Center Begins March 15!

Posted on Monday Feb 27, 2012

The Evanston Environmental Association and the Evanston Ecology Center are hosting their first Evanston Green Film Series! Environmentally-themed films will be shown on three evenings in March, April, and May.

On March 15, join us for a screening of Green Fire, the first full-length, high-definition documentary film ever made about legendary conservationist Aldo Leopold and his environmental legacy. Green Fire shares highlights from Leopold's extraordinary career, explaining how he shaped conservation and the modern environmental movement. It also illustrates how Leopold's vision of a community that cares about both people and land continues to inform and inspire people across the country and around the world.

The film highlights modern projects that put Leopold's land ethic in action in a multitude of ways, including a project in Chicago. As Aldo Leopold wrote in his groundbreaking book, A Sand County Almanac, "There are some who can live without wild things, and some who cannot. These essays are the delights and dilemmas of one who cannot." Join us in a group reading of "Thinking Like a Mountain" and see Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for our Time.

On April 13 and May 11, the EEA and the Ecology Center are proud to be the official Chicago area host of the Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival -- the largest environmental film festival in the U.S. These two evenings include films selected from this renowned festival and shown at the Ecology Center. Experience the highs, lows, challenges and triumphs of people's relationship with the environment as depicted by some of the best of today's environmental filmmakers. Festival-goers can expect to see award-winning films focused on nature, activism, conservation, energy and a range of other environmental issues.

These events will take place at the Evanston Ecology Center for ages 16 and older. Admission is a $5 donation to the EEA.
