Evanston Police Arrest Criminal Sexual Assault Offender
On Monday, March 5, 2012 at approximately 1:55PM, Evanston Police responded to a call of a criminal sexual assault that had just occurred in the 1900 block of Dewey Ave. The victim had called police from the nearby Family Focus Building located at 2010 Dewey Ave. stating that she was just sexually assaulted by an unknown offender and provided a detailed description of this subject. A patrol officer in the area of the call located a subject matching the description within a very short period of time. The officer was able to successfully conduct an investigative stop of this individual at 1619 Church St.
The victim positively identified this subject detained by police as the subject who sexually assaulted her and subsequently this subject was placed under arrest and transported to the Evanston Police Department for further investigation. This subject is identified as Marlow S. Land of Chicago.
Evanston Police detectives learned through their investigation that the victim, a female 19 year old Evanston resident had exited a C.T.A. bus at Emerson Ave. and Dodge Ave. heading home when the victim was followed by Land who also exited the same bus. The victim related that while in the 1900 block of Dewey Ave. Land grabbed her and pulled her between two houses then slamming her to the ground. Land then removed the victim's clothing and forcibly had sexual intercourse with the victim. The victim sustained no serious physical injuries and was examined and released from a local hospital.
Land made an admission to committing this sexual assault to detectives conducting the investigation. Police learned while conducting their investigation that Land had come to Evanston to visit a friend earlier in the day. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office - Felony Review Unit approved three counts of Criminal Sexual Assault against Land.
