Evanston Recycles Over 1,200 lbs of Holiday Lights

Although the holiday season has come and gone there is ONE more thing to celebrate! This year, the Evanston community again had a strong participation in the holiday light recycling program.

From December through January, more than 1,200 lbs. of holiday lights were collected at the Ecology Center, Levy Senior Center and the library. Holiday lights were recycled by Elgin Recycling where the lights are dissembled and broken down into their individual parts to be turned into new products.

Evanston’s last two years of participation has kept more than 2,500 lbs of lights out of our landfills. Thanks to everyone who participated and made this another recycling event well done!
