The Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program’s Youth Job Fair will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave., Evanston. Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl is asking local businesses to support the City’s Youth Engagement Initiative by hiring Evanston youth and young adults who interview for jobs at the fair. She considers hiring youth and young adults to be “vital for the future of Evanston and for our local economy.”

The City of Evanston has secured several commitments from private employers, but participation is needed by additional businesses to ensure that all of the youth and young adults who want to be employed can be. Employers may hire youth and pay 100% of their salaries, or they may partner with the city in a 50/50 salary arrangement. Interested employers should determine their number of job openings and whether they would like to participate in the 50/50 salary arrangement. They then should contact Knetra Shaw, Youth and Young Adult Assistant Program Manager, no later than Friday, April 13 by phone at 847-448-8049 or email youth@cityofevanston.org.

The fair will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is open to Evanston youth and young adults 14 to 18 years of age. The employment program begins on June 4 and ends on August 10, 2012. Youth are invited to attend one of the remaining eight outreach sessions held through April 13 in order to learn about job openings and fill out an application in advance.
