Volunteers Needed for Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Fair
The City of Evanston is seeking volunteers to help with the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Fair on April 21, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This program is for Evanston youth age 14-18 years. In order to be eligible to attend the job fair, youth must be enrolled in school and be at least 14 years of age when the Youth Employment Program begins in mid-June 2012. Specific volunteer opportunities/details include:
Station 1: Outdoor/Indoor monitor (3 Volunteers Needed) – pass out entry tickets to youth, given instructions upon entering the building,such as knowing SS#, address, references, etc.
Station 2: Registration (2 Volunteers Needed) – Confirm minimum age of applicant, verify that student is an Evanston resident, ensure that youth has a ticket # etc.
Station 3: Hall Monitors (5 Volunteers Needed) – Perform traffic control, maintain noise levels, direct youth to appropriate areas
Station 4: Application Room (4 Volunteers Needed) – Assist youth in completing application forms
Station 5: Job Specification Room- Distribute pens and index cards for youth to record # of jobs they are applying for and the table # of employer, explain the job selection process. Two (2) volunteers needed from 7:30a – 11:30a and two (2) volunteers needed from 11:30a to 3:30p.
Station 6: Interview Preparation – Provide orientation to youth in a workshop that reviews interview techniques, making positive first impressions, and portraying confidence. Three (3) volunteers needed from 7:30a – 11:30a and three (3) volunteers needed from 11:30a – 3:30p.
Station 7: Refreshment Area: Monitor food and drinks (3 Volunteers Needed)
Station 8: Interviewing Arena: - Assist employers and youth in the interview arena. Five (5) volunteers needed from 7:30 to 11:30 and five (5) volunteers needed from 11:30a to 3:30p.
