Aging Well Conference Focuses on Strategies for Healthy Aging
The 14th annual Aging Well Conference for older adults, their families, professionals and other caregivers will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2012. The conference will be held at the North Shore Retirement Hotel, 1611 Chicago Ave., Evanston. All costs are underwritten by the collaborating and supporting agencies, so admission is free, but space is limited.
The conference will open with a welcome by Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl, followed by the keynote speech by Lucia West Jones, Executive Director of the Northeastern Illinois Area Agency on Aging. An award ceremony will honor Father Robert H. Oldershaw, Pastor Emeritus, St. Nicholas Church.
Participants will attend two workshops they selected during the registration process. Workshop will focus on strategies for healthy aging. The fourteen workshop topics include fitness; legal protections; stress relief; ways to leverage technology for engagement; volunteerism; finances; second careers; and Aging in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community. The closing session, “Rate Your Plate,” will teach all participants nutrition tips and provide fun samples to inspire healthy eating choices.
A continental breakfast will be provided and limited parking is available. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available through Methodist Senior Home Care for Licensed Clinical Social Workers.
