Parks & Recreation Classes and Updates

It’s summer camp registration season, and the City of Evanston might win a prize for some of the most unusual camps in the region. Where else can you find a camp that immerses you in the Victorian Era and lets you invent Steampunk creations? Or channel your inner Apollo Anton Ohno and Shani Davis at Speedskating Camp? Don’t want your kids to have all the fun? Then check out Parent/Child AquaAction and find out who screams more while tubing.

If you are not sure if you want a day camp or a sleepaway camp this summer, how about a camp that does BOTH? The three-week Eco Explorer day camp includes a 3-day camping trip to Wisconsin. All this and more (including classic camps such as arts, theater and sports) are found at www.cityofevanston.org/summercamps. Registration is easy online, by phone, in person or by mail! In order to get a login for online registration, residents must first e-mail AeroHelp@cityofevanston.org to get a username and password.

Preseason Beach Tokens on Sale Now
Season beach tokens are on sale now at the Morton Civic Center and all community centers. This year, the beach season will be expanded with Evanston’s five public swimming beaches opening on Saturday, May 26.

The “preseason” token fees, which are in effect through June 8, 2012, are $24 for an Evanston or Skokie resident and $40 for a nonresident. The regular fee for a season beach token is $32 for an Evanston or Skokie resident and $56 for a nonresident.

Daily passes may be purchased at beach entrances; a daily pass is $6 for children age 1-11 and $8 for people 12 years and older. Admission for children under age 1 is free.

Based on family size and income, Evanston residents may qualify for beach token fee assistance and a free beach token program. The outreach beach pass program for Evanston teens is in place again this year with passes becoming available on May 21. For more information, visit www.cityofevanston.org or call 3-1-1.
