The Evanston Police Department has been selected by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to conduct a series of traffic enforcement campaigns for fiscal year 2012. These enforcement campaigns are sponsored by grant money from the Illinois Department of Transportation. The purpose of these enforcement initiatives is to reduce motor vehicle crashes resulting in injuries through increased visibility of police during these campaigns. The City of Evanston’s Animal Control Bureau has apprehended a lost apricot colored toy poodle in the 1000 block of Harvard Terrace on Evanston’s south side on April 27, 2012. The neutered male poodle was wearing an electric fence collar and no tags. Once an elm tree is diagnosed with Dutch Elm Disease, the City of Evanston requires removal of the tree within 30 days. If the diseased tree is located on private property, the property owner must bear the cost of removal. This cost can range from approximately $1,000 for medium-sized trees, to over $4,000 for very large trees. In order to avoid these unexpected costs, the City’s Parks/Forestry Division offers Dutch Elm Disease (DED) insurance to all Evanston property owners.…

On April 30, 2012, the Evanston City Council voted unanimously to purchase electricity from Constellation Energy, an Alternate Retail Electricity Supplier (ARES), and specified that a 100% renewable energy mix be used. This move makes Evanston one of the few Illinois communities to purchase energy at a substantially lower rate for its residents, while attaining the benefits of renewable energy.
