Posted on Wednesday May 02, 2012

Starting May 14, 2012 and spanning twelve weeks, the city will be contracting water main replacement and roadway work on Group 1 project consisting of four street segments listed below. This project includes the replacement of the existing deteriorated water main with new ductile iron pipe as well as replacement of the existing water services. The street resurfacing portion of the project involves curb replacement as needed, roadway base repair, and asphalt surface patching, along with selected sidewalk replacement and driveway aprons.

The water main work and street resurfacing are part of the city's continuous program to renovate and improve the water distribution system and roadways throughout the community. The funding for the project will be from the City's Water Fund and Capital Improvement Fund. The specific locations which have been included as a part of Group 1 are listed below and in the following sequence of construction:

    1. Pitner Avenue (Main Street to Nathaniel Place)
    2. Bradley Place (Fowler Avenue to Pitner Avenue)
    3. Nathaniel Place (McDaniel Avenue to Pitner Avenue)
    4. McDaniel Avenue (Lee Street to Dead End North of Crain Street)
Construction will begin the week of May 14 on several street segments with the entire project expected to be fully completed by the end of July. The actual date when construction is planned for your street will be noted on the temporary NO PARKING signs posted 48 hours prior to the start of work.

The construction activities will create some inconvenience for abutting residents, but we will attempt to minimize these problems. Construction zone daytime NO PARKING restrictions will be intermittent throughout the duration of the project; evening and night time parking (5 p.m. to 7 p.m.) will always be available. Street sweeping and/or neighborhood parking restrictions will be waived for a one block radius around the construction zone when temporary daytime NO PARKING is in effect.

The contractor for this street improvement program is Glenbrook Excavating & Concrete, Inc. 1350 North Old Rand Road, Wauconda, IL 60084. The project is under the supervision of the city's Engineering Division. The Resident Engineer in the field will be Angeleo Alonzo, Jr.,who will be directly responsible for all aspects of the construction.

If you should have any questions or concerns, please contact the Resident Engineer at 3-1-1 or (847)- 448- 4311. Questions about the street projects in general should be directed to Sat Nagar, P.E., Senior Engi-neer at 3-1-1. Any sprinkler system should be identified and marked with a flag by the property owner prior to the start of construction to prevent damages to the sprinkler system.
