City Announces Street Resurfacing Projects for 2012

Posted on Tuesday May 01, 2012

Starting May 7, 2012 for eight weeks, the city will be contracting road resurfacing work on nine street segments throughout Evanston.  This project involves curb replacements as needed; roadway base repair; replacement of asphalt surfaces from curb to curb; and selected sidewalk and driveway apron replacements. The road work is part of the city's continuous program to improve the road system throughout the community. The funding for the project will be from the city's Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds and there will be no direct charge to property owners on these streets.

The map, located here>>>, illustrates the specific locations which have been included as a part of this contract and in the following sequence of construction:

 1.  Madison Street (Ridge Avenue to Custer Avenue)
 2.  Hinman Avenue (Greenleaf Street to Dempster Street)
 3.  Greenwood Street (Maple Avenue to Sherman Place)
 4.  Grove Street (Chicago Avenue to Judson Avenue)
 5.  Dodge Avenue (Emerson Street to Simpson Street)
 6.  Foster Street (Dodge Avenue to Dewey Avenue)
 7.  Ewing Avenue (Grant Street to Colfax Street)
 8.  Sheridan Place (Sheridan Road to Sheridan Road)
 9.  Highland Avenue (Thayer Street to Isabella Street)

Construction will begin the week of May 7, 2012 on several street segments with the entire project expected to be fully completed by the end of June, 2012.  The actual date when construction is planned for your street will be noted on temporary NO PARKING signs posted 48 hours prior to the start of work.  The construction activities will create some inconvenience for abutting residents, but workers will attempt to minimize these problems.  Construction zone daytime NO PARKING restrictions will be intermittent throughout the duration of the project; evening and nighttime parking (5 p.m. to 7 a.m.) will always be available.  Street sweeping  and/or neighborhood parking restrictions will be waived for a one block radius around the construction zone when temporary daytime NO PARKING is in effect.
