Evanston Police Arrest Robbery Offender

Evanston Police on Tuesday, May 1st at approximately 5:50PM detectives responded to a report a robbery that just occurred near the intersection of Custer St. and Howard St. in Evanston. Detectives met with the victim, a 65 year old resident of Chicago, who related that she had just exited a store in the area and had some cash in her hand. The victim stated she sat down on a nearby bench to put the money in her purse, and a subject came up and demanded the money from the victim. The subject then reached out grabbing the money out of the victim’s hands along with some lottery papers that were also being held by the victim. The subject then left the area on foot.

Detectives provided a description of the offender to area police units and a beat officer a short distance away, located a subject in the alley of 900 Howard St. The victim was able to make a positive identification of the offender on scene and the subject was placed into custody and transported to the Evanston Police Department. The offender, now identified as Jason O. Pinnock age 24 of Chicago was charged with one count of Robbery.

A nearby police video surveillance camera was reviewed due to the robbery being in close proximity of the camera system at the intersection of Howard St. & Custer St.. The surveillance footage shows Pinnock approach the victim and remove items from the victim’s hands. The video also shows Pinnock walk away and discard some items onto the ground. It was later learned that Pinnock had discarded the lottery papers and retained the cash.

Pinnock made an admission to detectives in committing the robbery and stated he needed money to pay his cell phone bill. An arrest photo of Pinnock is attached to this media release and may be used only for legitimate media purposes.
