Citizen-led group seeks input on year-round Farmers' Market

Based on an Evanston150 top-ten idea, the “Market for All Seasons” Task Force has been developing a vision for a year-round market. “Since we began meeting last November, our group has created a mission statement, explored markets held around the country, and discussed vendor mix, space requirements and other attributes”, says Dennis Clarkson, Committee Chairman. “We are looking to create a vibrant, year-round Farmers’ Market providing access to locally/regionally produced foods in an engaging community gathering place."

To get input from the Evanston community, the Committee has developed a brief survey which will be conducted at the Saturday Farmers Market on July 28th.  The Committee is seeking a better understanding of who currently attends the market, what components of the market experience are important to them, and what ideas they may have about a year-round market. This community input will help the Committee develop plans for a year-round Farmers’ Market.

Whether you go to the existing market(s) regularly or not, your thoughts will be valuable to the planning process.   You are encouraged to provide your input either to a volunteer at the July 28th market (at Oak and University Place behind the Hilton Garden Inn), or by taking the survey online at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/W9QRMT8. Results of this survey and other input will be made available later in the summer.
