Special City Council Meeting Monday

The City Council is holding a special meeting Monday at 6:00 PM.  The meeting is being held primarily to give final approval to a liquor license for the new Smylie Brothers Restaurant and Brewery, 1615 Oak. The Council has canceled the regularly scheduled Rules and Human Services Committee meetings Monday night, but has included on the City Council meeting agenda two items that would have been on the agendas of those committees. A Message from Evanston Mayor Regarding Recent Homicide

Today the Evanston Police Department and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office announced the arrest of Wesley A. Woodson III of Evanston in connection with the murder of Dajae Coleman.  Woodson has been charged with two counts of 1st Degree Murder and seven counts of Aggravated Discharge of Firearm.  My thanks to the Evanston Police, the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force and the State’s Attorney’s Office for their fine work in apprehending and bringing charges against Dajae’s alleged…more »

Central Street Construction Starting October 2

For ten days, from October 2 to October 16, McShane Construction and Subcontractors will be performing an underground utility connection for the new building at 1700 Central Street. The work will include cutting open the roadway for water, storm and sanitary connections with associated restorations to the road and sidewalk. Community Emergency Response Team Class Set for Oct. 20-21

Evanston Fire & Life Safety Services will be sponsoring an emergency preparedness/CERT class on the weekend of October 20 and 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Morton Civic Center Parasol Room, 2100 Ridge Avenue Evanston Illinois. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area. City of Evanston to Offer Expanded Youth Activities This Week

  The City of Evanston is extending hours and increasing activities for Evanston youth at several community centers from Wednesday, September 26 through Sunday, September 30, 2012. Admission to the gym activities and roller skate rental at the community centers will be free this week for school age children. Additionally, ice skating admission and skate rental at Robert Crown Center will be free to school age and high school students. Mayor Calls for Community Meeting on Anti-violence Initiatives

In response to the tragic death of Evanston Township High School student and Evanston resident Dajae Coleman, Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl is hosting a community meeting seeking solutions to address violence in Evanston. New T.V. Show This Weekend will Feature Evanston Unsolved Cold Case Homicides

The Evanston Police Department announces that it will be featuring five unsolved cold case homicides in a new show that starts this upcoming weekend on Saturday, September 29 at 11 p.m. on WPWR-Channel 50. These featured cases are being shown on different episodes throughout this new season. Volunteer Call-to-action to Help "Have Dreams" Center Cleanup after Flood

HAVE DREAMS, an organization which provides educational and vocational support for autistic children and youth in Evanston and beyond, was flooded due to a burst pipe in August. Since this horrible accident, much work has been done to get them operational again. However, they are far from 100% fully-functioning. Evanston Police Release Pedestrian Crosswalk Initiative Results

The Evanston Police Department Traffic Management Bureau conducted a crosswalk enforcement initiative from August 8 through August 31, 2012. This initiative was timed to coincide with the Pedestrian Safety Initiative that was approved by the City Council on August 6, 2012.
