City Working on Options to Replace Unexpected Removal of Mural on Green Bay Rd.

The City of Evanston, through its Public Art Committee, is looking into options to replace the 110-foot mural on Green Bay Road that was recently painted over. The mural was painted on a Metra retention wall near Emerson Avenue.

The mural, “A Loose History of Evanston,” was created in 2002 by Evanston Township High School graduate Theodore Boggs for his senior studies project. The mural traced a historical time line of Evanston.

At the November meeting of the city’s Public Art Committee, the unexpected and accidental removal of the mural by a nearby property owner was discussed. The committee plans to replace the mural with a similar-themed mural in spring 2013.
