New Year Brings Some Internal Transfers of City of Evanston Services
With the implementation of the Fiscal Year 2013 budget, the City of Evanston has transferred certain services, including property standards and business licenses, within the municipality for the purpose of making services more efficient for the public.
The Housing Code Compliance Program (Property Standards) has been transferred from the Community and Economic Development Department to the Health Department, including its four inspectors. The program provides systematic and routine area inspection for all non-owner occupied single- and multi-family rental dwellings. It also responds to requests for service about commercial and residential structures; vacant buildings; illegal apartments; over-occupancy; hazardous stairways and porches; debris and trash; abandoned vehicles; and illegal dumping. The Health Department is located on the ground level of the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave.
Additionally, new general business license applications and renewals for non-food related businesses and for those businesses not licensed by the State of Illinois were transferred from the City Collector’s Office to the Community and Economic Development Department. Additional information can be found at: www.cityofevanston.org/business-licenses. The Community and Economic Development Department is located on the third floor of the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center.
