Bike the Ridge Returns on Sunday, September 29
The annual Bike the Ridge event will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 29, 2013. Ridge Avenue will be closed to ALL vehicular traffic between Howard and Church Streets. Bicycles are not allowed on Ridge Avenue at any other time, so come out and enjoy this non-competitive, city-sponsored special event!
You are invited to join the official start of the ride at 9:00 a.m. at the intersection of Ridge Avenue and Howard Street. You may bike Ridge Avenue from Howard Street to Church Street and back again or anywhere in the middle. Children under age 18 are required to wear bike helmets per City of Evanston ordinance. This event is limited to those on non-motorized bicycles only (motorized bicycles or skateboards are not allowed).
Children are encouraged to decorate their bicycles in advance or at the bike decorating area on the route. Non-bicyclists can walk along the sidewalks of Ridge Avenue and support the bicyclists.
A wide variety of free activities will take place along the route (see below), so be sure to stop at Ridgeville Park and Grey Park. There will be live musical performances, a stretching/ massage tent, family yoga classes at 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. at Grey Park, and snacks and water. While at the event, you can register your bike or donate your used bike to a good cause. Several food trucks also will be selling all sorts of delicious goodies.
