Vehicle Stickers
City of Evanston Code 10-8-1 requires all vehicles registered to an Evanston address to pay an annual wheel tax and properly display a valid City vehicle sticker.
2012 Vehicle stickers go on sale October 3, 2011 and must be displayed by 1/5/2012.
Every resident, business, firm or corporation must purchase a vehicle sticker for each vehicle registered with the Secretary of State, State of Illinois, to an address within the corporate limits of the City of Evanston (see the City Code). The sticker should be affixed to the driver's side of the windshield.
To save time and City expense, the sticker application forms are available online below. Residents can also pick up a blank form at the City’s Revenue Office and mail in their completed forms along with payments. For additional information, contact the City’s Revenue Office at 847/448-8203.

Please note that if a resident is purchasing a vehicle sticker plus a residential parking permit (combo sticker), they must either purchase them via mail or in person at the City Collector’s Office in the first floor of the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center located at 2100 Ridge Ave. Please attach a copy of the current State registration form to the application if not using a preprinted form or if there is vehicle change information.

Vehicle stickers expire every year. 2012 Stickers must be purchased and displayed by January 5, 2012. A penalty of 50% will be added to all applications received/postmarked after January 5, 2012. (A passenger car vehicle sticker will cost $113 rather than $75.)
If your plates are registered on or after July 1st, 2012, you will pay only 50% of the applicable fee when applying for a 2011 vehicle sticker. ($37.50 rather than $75.)

The sticker must be displayed on the lower left-hand corner of the windshield (Driver's side). To avoid misplacing or losing the sticker, apply to your windshield when received. Weather does not affect this type of sticker.
Penalty
The penalty for not obtaining or displaying a vehicle sticker is $50 plus a $20 additional penalty if not paid within 10 days.
Senior Citizen Discount - Evanston Benefit Card
Seniors fulfilling certain requirements are eligible for a 50% discount on one vehicle sticker per household by obtaining an Evanston Benefit Card. More information about the vehicle sticker senior discount is available here.
Transferring a Sticker
If you replace a car at any time during the year, a transfer of your City Vehicle License sticker must be made by application to the City Collector, located on the first floor of 2100 Ridge Ave. Stickers are not transferable from one person to another. There is a fee of $10.00 to do a transfer. The original sticker and a copy of the new vehicle registration must be presented for a transfer.
