New! Lakefront Fitness Classes
The Levy Senior Center is expanding its terrific fitness programs to Evanston's beautiful lakefront! Buy a 10-punch card for just $40 and drop by any of the new classes held weekdays from 6-7pm. Classes include Pilates, Zumba, Yoga/Stand Up Paddle Board and more!
In order to streamline how senior social service programs are administered, the City of Evanston introduced the “Evanston Benefit Card” on March 1, 2011. This will make programs more accessible to seniors and allow cardholders to receive a discount at participating Evanston businesses.
Residents may qualify or re-qualify for certain benefits in the community, such as Subsidized Taxicab Program, Wheel Tax Discount (formely Vehicle Sticker), Recreation Program Fee Assistance, Yard Waste Stickers & Cart Discount, and the Handyman Program.
All types of computer and digital camera classes are available during the day and evening. Some classes are geared to senior adults, while others are open to adults of all ages. All training is conducted by Training & Support Services. Click here for a link to the page with class information.
The Computer Lab is open for Levy Center members when classes are not in session.
Exercise classes and Health & Wellness classes
Levy Center members pay a discounted fee for those classes which limit participation to those age 55 and older. Regular fees apply for classes geared to adults of all ages. Click here for a link to the page with class information.
Levy Senior Center members pay discounted fees.
Lunch is available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The cost of lunch is $6.25 for people age 59 years and younger and a suggested donation of $4.50 for people age 60 years and older. Food and beverage vending machines also are on site.
Game Room - Free
A Pool Table is available to Levy Center members.
The gift shop specializes in gift items and greeting cards. Please call ahead to confirm hours of operation.
The Wednesday shopping day travels to FOOD4Less on Main Street, which also is convenient to Marshall's and Sam's Club. The Thursday shopping day travels to Jewel on Howard Street, which is convenient to Best Buy, Target and Office Max. Download the pdf file below for a complete schedule.
Income Tax Assistance
AARP provides free tax assistance from February until mid-April. Call ahead for an appointment.
Members receive a newsletter announcing special events, new trip opportunities, and general news of interest to members. To view the current newsletter, please click on the link near the top of the main page for the Levy Center.
Program fee assistance is available to qualified Evanston residents on a sliding scale according to the number of family members in relation to the total family income. Scholarships are not available for special events or trips. If you are interested in obtaining information about this process, please ask at the Levy Center office.
At least one trip per month is offered. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a discounted fee for Levy Center members.
Snow Shoveling Assistance
Seniors and the Disabled can be connected with volunteers in our community willing to assist with the snow shoveling for homeowners. Read more here>>
