Independent
Ride Along
A minimum of a four hour ride-along will be scheduled at some point during the class prior to graduation. A waiver form needs to be filled out and signed before the ride-along. Students will have an opportunity to gain a full understanding of patrol support equipment including cars, safety and communication equipment. Students will respond with the officer to citizens calls for service.
Communications/Enhanced-911 Center 
A minimum of three hour period will be scheduled to observe the communications operations of the department prior to graduation. A telecommunications officer will explain the procedures and answer questions. Equipment to be observed are the E-911 system, phone call handling, radio dispatch of police and fire units. After the completion of class, students are given the opportunity to schedule a 9-1-1 observation with a telecommunications officer.
Week 1
Week 1 provides an overview of the Police Department. Specifically, it will address how the department operates, describe various assignments and jobs, and the basic mission of the department. The department's annual report will be reviewed as well as a brief history of the department.

Week 2
Objective: The purpose of this block of instruction is to provide the student with an understanding of the criminal justice system. The State's Attorney's Office will track a case from start to finish to further explain the process. In addition, students will participate in a mock trial based on a real case.
