2012-2013 CITY MANAGER’S OFFICE INTERNSHIP

Overview
Evanston, Illinois is the crossroads between Chicagoland’s urban core and its vibrant North Shore communities. Realizing its organizational values of excellent customer service, continuous improvement, integrity and accountability, Evanston strives to be “the most livable city in America”.

Internships within the City Manager’s Office (CMO) provide executive-level “learning capacity” in the provision of health, safety and welfare services to Evanston residents. Interns work on substantive projects providing research, administrative and staff assistance in various functions, including:

  • Research and Analysis
  • Program Planning
  • Organizational and Administrative Support
  • Communications and Engagement

In addition to traditional public administration experience, the CMO provides opportunities for hands-on experiences in ‘forward-looking’ sectors, including:

  • Sustainability and Community Greening
  • Social Media and Community Engagement
  • Innovation and the Public Sector
  • Government and Philanthropy

Required Qualifications
Applicants must be a current undergraduate or graduate-level student in order to apply. Strong skills in reading, writing and communications skills required. A background in public policy/administration, economics, finance, management is desired, however multidisciplinary and/or generalists also sought.

Terms
CMO Internships are generally unpaid and are scheduled for eight (8) or fourteen (14) weeks and requires a minimum commitment of 15 hours per week. Academic credit may be available upon request depending on each institution’s criteria.

Calendar
Applications for internships are accepted on a year-round basis, however for participation in a specific 2012 term/semester all application materials must be received no later than 5pm on the deadline date. Late, incomplete and/or hardcopy applications will not be considered. If the deadline falls on a weekend and/or holiday, applications are due the next business day.
