Holiday Food & Toy Drive

Evanston's seventh annual Holiday Food & Toy Drive provided customized food and gift baskets to 400 families in need thanks to generous donations from community members.

The day-long event held on December 18 at the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center was accompanied by a musical performance from pianist Gwen Edmonds. Members of the Evanston Police and Fire Departments helped recipients carry heavy items; Evanston Public Library staff members handed out free books for children and adults; Evanston Health & Human Services Department staff provided general assistance resources and information; and 311 representatives provided information and answered questions regarding City services.

The City would like to thank Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center staff, Lincolnwood School, Chessmen Club of the North Shore, event volunteers, and all of those who donated. The City also thanks Pastor James Wilson and Mt. Pisgah Ministry; Pastor Martha Holmes and Bethany Baptist Church of Christ; Pastor Monte' Dillard and First Church of God Christian Life Center; Pastor R. Andrew Tolbert and New Hope CME Church; Pastor Patricia Efiom and Ebenezer AME Church; Pastor Rosalind Henderson and Bethel AME Church; and Pastor Ken Cherry and Christ Temple Missionary Baptist Church. The combined efforts of all community members made this year’s event the best one yet!
