Learn about the various legal protections available to older adults that are designed to preserve dignity, protect a desired legacy and support families during life transitions.

A popular local geriatrician discusses how to work with your medical team to maximize your ability to stay active and healthy. Learn about safe medication usage, advance care planning as well as general health advice.
Workshop Five
Fit and Strong!
An award-winning, multi-component, evidence-based physical activity program for older adults. Preview a program that targets older adults with osteoarthritis and has demonstrated significant functional improvements in this population.
Workshop Six
On Being an Aging Woman: A Conversation (Part I)
Join us for a conversation about ways cultural norms insinuate themselves into how we see and assess ourselves. Is 70 really the new 50? Is good health under our personal control? Let’s have a discussion about how we would like to see older women portrayed.
Workshop Seven
From Aging to Sage-ing: Learning to Honor the Eldering Process
Throughout history, elders were honored as sources of wisdom, experience and insight. Join us in exploring contemporary stigmas attached to the aging process and the spiritual dimension of aging.

What have you forgotten today? Did you walk into the kitchen and forget what you were looking for? If so, you are not alone. Learn how memory works and what tools and techniques can enhance your brain power.
Workshop Two
LGBT Aging: What’s Unique?
This program will address the unique challenges faced by LGBT older adults. The impact of the new Illinois Domestic Partnership Act will be discussed. Resources for LGBT older adults will be shared.
Workshop Three
Volunteerism for Older Adults: Find Your Match
In an interesting variation on ‘speed dating’, meet representatives of local social service, arts and educational organizations, hear about their volunteer needs, and find a new outlet for your volunteer energy.

Financial Street Smarts
Learn about the latest scams and develop strategies to protect yourself and your finances from exploitation.
Workshop Five
How to Flourish in Retirement: Second Careers for Fulfillment or Necessity
Retirement can be a time of fulfillment and continued growth, filled with opportunities to learn new things, finding new avenues for personal expression and forming meaningful relationships. Each individual needs to follow their own path toward creating their own future. This workshop addresses that process.

Closing session at 12:00 noon: RATE YOUR PLATE
