The Green Energy program encourages energy efficient development and improvements by offering low-interest loans to businesses, non-profit organizations and local governments in Illinois. Projects can range from $10,000 to $10 million. Green Energy loans can be applied to the purchase or installation of:
- solar photovoltaic panels
- solar thermal energy systems
- small wind energy systems
- equipment or upgrades to a building that will result in an overall improvement in energy efficiency

The Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation offers grants to charitable (federally recognized 501c3) nonprofit organizations and local government agencies to improve energy efficiency, develop renewable energy resources, and preserve and enhance natural areas and wildlife habitats throughout the state.
