In order to fully pursue a more sustainable community, there needs to be a focus on food production. Evanston supports sustainable food production through partnerships with various organizations and events throughout the year.

City Initiatives

Farmers' Markets - The City of Evanston hosts Farmers' Markets every Saturday between May and November which showcases over 30 different vendors selling a variety of goods.

Dawes School Garden - The Dawes School Garden has been working with Slow Food Chicago in order to teach children how to plant and grow their own food, ultimately giving them a lesson in sustainable food practices.

The Talking Farm - The Talking Farm's mission is to cultivate healthy, sustainable communities by supporting the production and appreciation of locally grown food. The Talking Farm has worked with various schools and NorthwesternUniversity to develop community gardens that educate people in sustainable food production.

Keep Evanston Beautiful - KEB promotes edible school gardens with the belief t hat through growing their own food children can learn to make better food choices.
