City Expands Taxicab Voucher Program
Eligible Evanston residents who are older or have ambulatory disabilities will have additional door-to-door and door-to-destination transportation services from May 3 through June 30, 2017 thanks to a pilot expansion of the City’s Taxicab Voucher Program. The TransAssist 4 Evanston pilot program is funded through the Transit Planning 4 All Grant, and is made possible through a partnership with the Council for Jewish Elderly (CJE).
TransAssist 4 Evanston caters to residents who require the use of a motorized wheelchair-accessible vehicle or have ambulatory disabilities that make it impossible to access curb-to-curb taxicab service. Program participants must meet the guidelines of the Evanston Benefit Card program.
TransAssist 4 Evanston includes two new pilot services: TransAssist 4 Evanston rides (T4E) and TransAssist 4 Evanston shuttle service (T4E-SS). Residents who already use senior taxicab coupons can request a T4E ride to take place Monday through Friday, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. A ride can be scheduled up to 24 hours in advance by calling 773-508-1300. Travel can be to or from Evanston to any location within Evanston, Lincolnwood, Skokie or Wilmette using a T4E coupon. The starting or ending point of the trip must be in Evanston. T4E coupons cost $4 for a one-way trip.
The T4E-SS shuttle provides door-to-destination services to select locations on Mondays and Thursdays, between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. T4E-SS shuttle rides cost $2 for a one-way trip, and must be scheduled by 3 p.m. the day before the trip by calling 773-508-1300. The Monday shuttle will include drop-offs and pick-ups at NorthShore University Evanston Hospital (Central Street), downtown Evanston, Presence Saint Francis Hospital, Lincolnwood Mall and, starting June 1, Dawes Park, located on Sheridan Road and Church Street. The Thursday shuttle includes service to Aldi, downtown Evanston, Skokie Hospital, Old Orchard Mall, and, starting June 1, Oakton Skokie Pool.
Residents must be active Evanston Benefit Card holders to take advantage of T4E rides and T4E-SS shuttle services. To apply for the Evanston Benefit Card program, residents must bring proof of age, residency and income to the Levy Center Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Residents may purchase up to 25 coupons per week per person. Coupons may be purchased:

The TransAssist 4 Evanston Pilot Program will provide services from May 3, 2017 through June 30, 2017 and is funded through a federal grant, Transit Planning 4 All, from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Community Living in partnership with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration. This program can only continue with additional funding.
