Target Plans to Open Small-format Store
Target has announced plans to open a 27,400 square foot small-format store at The Shops at Sherman Plaza in downtown Evanston, slightly north of the redesigned Fountain Square. Target has signed a lease with a wholly-owned subsidiary of Highlands REIT, Inc. for this small-format store, projected to open in March 2018.
Target and the landlord had been negotiating for over a year to secure this agreement for the spaces on the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue formerly occupied by Office Depot, Jos. A. Bank, and Ann Taylor Loft.
“I’m pleased to welcome Target to The Shops at Sherman Plaza,” said Evanston Mayor Stephen H. Hagerty. “The fact that a strong, national retailer like Target is opening a new store in downtown Evanston speaks volumes about the strength of our local economy. Sherman Plaza is an extremely desirable location, with plenty of public transportation options, a mix of residential and office buildings, and the adjacent Fountain Square Plaza and pedestrian plaza project that will be completed before the store’s grand opening.”
Target’s announcement stated that their “Evanston Downtown” location will provide Northwestern University students and the downtown working, residential and visitor populations a quick-trip shopping experience and an assortment curated with local guest needs in mind, including:
- A grocery selection, including fresh produce, grab-and-go items and meal solutions
- Beauty, health and personal care products
- Apparel and accessories for women and men
- A curated assortment of dorm and apartment essentials
- Portable technology products and entertainment accessories
- A selection of toys and sporting goods
- Services will include a CVS Pharmacy and Order Pickup
In addition, Target's Order Pickup service – the ability to buy online and pickup in store – will provide guests with the convenience of having their orders ready within one hour for pickup and the security of having online orders shipped to, and held at the store.
