Evanston CommUNITY Picnic August 20

Post Date:08/02/2017 9:22 AM

CommUNITYPicnic_switcherCommunity members of all ages are invited to celebrate Evanston, diversity and going back to school at the City’s 2017 CommUNITY Picnic. The free event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, August 20, at Ingraham Park, located behind the Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave.

As in previous years, the CommUNITY Picnic will feature free food, games, activities, entertainment, and community partners. Activities will include 3-on-3 basketball, face painting and temporary tattoos, a photo booth, critters and pollinators from the Evanston Ecology Center, the Evanston Public Library Book Bike, and much more. Entertainment will include live music from Suite Molly Seven, as well as performances by the Jesse White Tumblers and balloon artist Tony Wright.

New this year: the 5th Ward Planning Committee is hosting a Community Mixer inside the Morton Civic Center from noon to 3 p.m. The event is open to all community members and registration is requested.

The City is seeking community organizations and businesses to participate as exhibitors at the event. Participating organizations should be aligned with the goal of celebrating the beginning of a new school year and the community's diversity. Interested organizations are encouraged to register to participate by visiting cityofevanston.org/picnic and completing the exhibitor form.

Volunteers are also needed to assist with picnic activities and food. To volunteer, please contact Myra Gorman at mgorman@cityofevanston.org or call 847-448-4311.

The CommUNITY Picnic is sponsored by Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin, the Kiwanis Club of Evanston, Evanston Community Foundation, Northwestern University and more.

For more information, please visit cityofevanston.org/picnic or call/text 847-448-4311. For convenience, residents can simply dial 3-1-1 while in Evanston.
