'Kits, 'Cats and Kids Block Party September 14
Evanston’s ’Kits, ’Cats and Kids Block Party will turn Sherman Avenue and Clark Street into a great place for the whole family to play! The free block party will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 from 4:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in downtown Evanston.
The party will take place on Sherman Avenue between Church and Clark Streets and on Clark Street west of Sherman Avenue. The streets will be closed to traffic.
Attendees will enjoy games, arts and crafts, family-friendly activities, live music, the ETHS Marching Band and NU Marching Band, a rousing pep rally, and plenty of great dining options. All are encouraged to come hungry to dine at one of downtown Evanston's great restaurants or the wide variety of food trucks serving savory and sweet fare. The first 200 hot dogs will be free, thanks to sponsorship from First Bank & Trust.
Discounted football tickets will be sold at the Block Party to help fill Ryan Field stadium with a sea of purple for the football game on Saturday, September 16 versus Bowling Green. Discounted tickets can also be purchased at NUSPORTS.com with the code PURPLE through Friday, September 15.
The ETHS football game that weekend will be an away game against Fremd High School on Friday, September 15. The varsity game will be played at 7:30 p.m.
Community members are encouraged to bike or take public transportation to the block party, which is located just a short walk from the CTA and Metra Davis Street stations. Indoor bike parking is located on the second floor of the Sherman Plaza Self Park Garage (821 Davis St.) and a number of bike racks are located at the corner of Church Street and Sherman Avenue near the Barnes & Noble bookstore, as well as on Benson Avenue, south of Clark Street. A Divvy Bikes station is located on Benson Avenue just south of Church Street.
