Parking Restrictions Declared Feb. 9-11
The City of Evanston has declared a Snow Route Parking Ban for tonight, Friday, February 9, 2018 between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. and has declared a Snow Emergency for side streets on Saturday, February 10 and Sunday, February 11 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Community members are requested to park according to the posted street signs to allow the City to effectively clear the snow.
To assist plowing operations and to make parking more convenient for residents, the City, both school districts and Northwestern University are allowing residents to park in their lots or garages during specific times this weekend (details below).
Snow Route Parking Ban
During the Snow Route Parking Ban, main thoroughfares in Evanston designated as Snow Routes will be cleared first, and parking is illegal on these streets between 11 p.m. on Friday, February 9 through 6 a.m. on Saturday, February 10. Even if plows have been through, snow removal operations may require return visits by City trucks. During a Snow Route Parking Ban, vehicles are subject to ticketing, towing and storage charges.
During this weekend's Snow Emergency parking restrictions, no parking is allowed on Saturday, February 10 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on the even-numbered side of the street. No parking is allowed on Sunday, February 11 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on the odd-numbered side of the street.
Streets that are affected during snow emergencies are those with parking on both sides which are not posted as Snow Routes. Most streets with parking on one side only now have permanent “ODD date” or “EVEN date” signs. This allows them to be plowed during snow emergencies.
During a Snow Emergency, vehicles are subject to ticketing and towing. If towed, cars will be returned to the vicinity from which they were towed.
Sirens and Other Notifications
In addition to street signs, the City of Evanston uses a variety of methods to inform residents about snow parking restrictions, including text message alerts. Emergency sirens will sound at 8:15 p.m. Friday to remind community members to move their cars for the Snow Route Parking Ban. The sirens will sound at 7:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday to announce the Snow Emergency parking restrictions.
