Ridge Ave. Speed Limit to Be Reduced to 25 mph
In an effort to reduce vehicle crashes and improve safety for all roadway users, the City of Evanston will reduce the speed limit on Ridge Avenue, from Howard to Emerson Streets, from 30 mph to 25 mph. Signs indicating the new speed limit are scheduled to be installed beginning Tuesday, February 27. Message boards will be used to notify drivers of the changes.
The City requests all motorists to comply with the new speed limit and other traffic regulations to help minimize incidents along the corridor.
Other measures, including tree trimming to improve traffic signal visibility, have been completed by the City’s Public Works Agency. The Ridge Avenue corridor will be reevaluated in the spring to determine if further trimming is needed to maintain a good line of sight for drivers. Traffic signal operational changes at the Ridge Avenue and Lake Street intersection are also planned for this spring.
The Evanston Police Department will continue its efforts to improve safety and encourage driver behavior changes through targeted enforcement. These efforts will focus on speeding, disobeying traffic regulations, distracted driving, and seat belt requirements.
