Morton Grove Niles Water Supply Project Begins
The Morton Grove Niles Water Commission (MGNWC) will begin construction on a water supply improvement project this spring in the City of Evanston. This project will provide the villages of Morton Grove and Niles access to Lake Michigan water via Evanston’s supply system, providing the City of Evanston increased revenue.
To increase the capacity of Evanston’s water supply, construction and rehabilitation is required to install a transmission main that will carry water from Evanston, through the Village of Skokie, to Morton Grove and Niles. Included in the Commission’s plan is the construction of a new water pump station at 2525 Church St. and water transmission mains that will run under the North Shore Channel north of Church Street.
Construction, beginning in two weeks, will be limited to the geographic area defined in the map below and will occur between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Pedestrian access to homes will remain open at all times. Parking will only be temporarily impacted when new gas and sewer connections are being installed along McDaniel Avenue. Residents who are impacted will be notified 48 hours in advance of parking restrictions.
