Women Out Walking Logo_2018The Evanston Health & Human Services Department invites people of all ages and fitness levels to participate in the 2018 We’re Out Walking (WOW) program, a 12-week wellness program that encourages everyone who lives, works or plays in Evanston to get healthy with group walks, free health and fitness classes, seminars, and more!

Registration is now open online at cityofevanston.org/wow. In-person registration will also be accepted at the WOW kick-off event on Saturday, May 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Evanston Township High School, 1600 Dodge Ave.

The kick-off event will include local fitness vendors, motivational speakers, giveaways and fitness demonstrations. Free parking is available.

WOW runs from May 19 through August 12, 2018. Registration will be open throughout the 12-week program. All ages and fitness levels are welcome; Evanston residency is not required. The cost is $5 per person and includes participation in group walks, health and fitness classes, a WOW t-shirt, and connection to a supportive walking community.

In addition to receiving the health benefits of physical activity, WOW participants will also be introduced to a variety of activities that promote health awareness and healthy lifestyles. All participants are encouraged to participate in fitness classes and seminars hosted by local organizations and neighborhood walks organized by volunteer walk leaders. Events, classes and walks will be posted in the coming weeks at cityofevanston.org/wow.

Studies show that regular physical activity at moderate intensity levels improves health and well-being, reduces stress, and decreases the risk for certain diseases. Physical activity does not need to be strenuous to be beneficial.

For more information, including how to sponsor a participant and questions about registration or payment, please email wow@cityofevanston.org or call/text 847-448-4311. For convenience, residents may simply dial 3-1-1 in Evanston.
