Post Date:04/22/2019 3:00 PM

ISM_600pxThe Institute for Supply Management-Chicago (ISM-Chicago) has named the City of Evanston the Gold Winner of its 2019 Midwest Region Sustainability Award, which honors organizations for their outstanding efforts to promote sustainable business practices.

The City was one of only four organizations honored at ISM-Chicago’s sustainability awards ceremony on April 18 in Chicago, and the only to be awarded gold, ISM-Chicago's highest award level.

ISM-Chicago recognized the City for its Climate Action and Resilience Plan (CARP), adopted by the Evanston City Council in December 2018. CARP outlines actions the City and its community partners will take to meet ambitious climate action and resiliency goals over the next three decades, including achieving 100 percent renewable electricity for all Evanston properties by 2030, targeting net zero emissions (carbon neutrality) by 2050, and diverting 100 percent of waste from landfills by 2050.

In its award application, the City noted some of the actions it has already taken to meet the community’s sustainability goals, including launching one of the largest municipal composting programs in Illinois, promoting renewable electricity through the City’s Community Choice Electricity Aggregation program, and implementing a sustainable business recognition program.
