Spring Rainfall Delays Alley Maintenance, Street Repairs
A wet spring, including several snow events, has slowed City of Evanston efforts to repair streets and alleys damaged by harsh winter weather.
Public Works crews are currently operating approximately one week behind the City’s 2019 alley maintenance schedule, as the heavy equipment used to grade alleys requires dry conditions to operate. As weather conditions improve, crews will make every effort to catch up and will continue alley maintenance in the order listed on the schedule; no zones will be skipped.
Efforts to repair City streets this spring have also been hampered by wet conditions, as asphalt used to make long-lasting repairs is often unavailable in poor weather. The Public Works Agency expects to accelerate street repairs as conditions improve.
