Participate In the Bike to Work Challenge and Enjoy Special Events for Bicyclists June 14-28
Evanston commuters are encouraged to trade their gas pedals for bike pedals during the Active Transportation Alliance’s Bike to Work Challenge, June 14 to 28, 2019.
Community members can take advantage of this healthy, non-polluting transportation option by biking all or part of the way to work at least once during the two-week challenge. Bicyclists can join their employer’s team or start their own team at bikecommuterchallenge.org.
In addition to participating in the Bike to Work Challenge, bicyclists are invited to enjoy special events as well as vote for their favorite bike-friendly Evanston businesses throughout the two-week challenge.
Bike to Work Rally with Mayor Hagerty, June 14
On Friday, June 14, at 12:30 p.m., bicyclists can join Mayor Stephen Hagerty in celebrating the Bike to Work Challenge in Fountain Square, located at Sherman Avenue and Davis Street. Bike commuters can grab a quick snack to go. Wheel & Sprocket will be on site to support cyclists.
Bike to Work Pit Stops, June 14
On Friday, June 14, from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., Pony Shop will support Bike to Work commuters by providing coffee and pastries in shop at 1224 Chicago Ave.
From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on June 14, Everyday Cycles and Motion will provide Bike to Work commuters with beverages and treats in shop at 941 Chicago Ave.
Vote for Evanston Bike-friendly Businesses, June 14-28
To support the 2019 Bike to Work Challenge, bicyclists can nominate their favorite businesses for Evanston's inaugural Bike-friendly Business Award, which recognizes the important role businesses play in supporting biking as a convenient transportation option. Bicyclists are encouraged to visit cityofevanston.org/
In addition to voting for their favorite bike-friendly businesses, bicyclists can enjoy special discounts at participating businesses throughout the Bike to Work Challenge. Businesses offering special discounts include:

- 818 Coworking, 818 Lake St. - Free co-working day for new members taking a tour in June
- Maya Papaya & Tony Macarony, 1901 Central St. – 10 percent discount on the customer’s entire purchase if they or their children arrive by bike
- Prairie Joe’s, 1921 Central St. - Complimentary coffee and smile
- Ten Mile House, 1700 Central St. – 10 percent discount on meals for guests that bring in a bike helmet
