'A Bright Night for the Arts' December 5
The event, hosted by Mayor Stephen Hagerty and the Evanston Arts Council, along with community partners, The Block Museum of Art at Northwestern University, the Evanston Chamber of Commerce, and Family Focus, will be held on Thursday, December 5, 6 p.m. to 8:15 p.m., at The Block Museum of Art, 40 Arts Circle Dr.
Making this year’s event even brighter, admission is free and open to all. Registration is required by visiting cityofevanston.org/
Mayor Hagerty will present the Mayor's Awards for the Arts to honorees selected by the Evanston community and the Evanston Arts Council. An individual and an organization will be honored.
“Bright Spots” on view for this event include a performance by Identity Dance, featuring students from Family Focus. Evanston Made will provide a slideshow highlighting work created by Evanston artists, and the Evanston Terrain Biennial will showcase the outdoor art installations for this year’s citywide exhibition.
The free celebration will include treats and soft drinks, as well as a stroll through the Block Museum’s current exhibition, Pop América, 1965–1975, which challenges and reframes familiar notions of pop art by bringing together artists from North and South America, as well as the Caribbean. Pop América is the first exhibition to unify Latin American and Latinx expressions of pop and explore how artists working across the hemisphere embraced its bold and colorful imagery, references to mass culture, and representations of everyday objects, signs, and symbols.
Free parking is available for this event. For more information, please call/text 847-448-4311 or dial 3-1-1 in Evanston.
