Mayor Announces Holiday Card Contest Winner
Mayor Stephen Hagerty has announced the winner of his annual Holiday Card Contest, Olivia Ohlson of Haven Middle School.
In October, Mayor Hagerty put out a call for talented young artists to submit their designs for his annual holiday card. Four finalists were selected: Olivia Ohlson of Haven Middle School, Omkaara Kamath of Willard Elementary School, Lenora Schnitger of Roycemore School, and Lucas Linder of Nichols Middle School.
The winning design, along with the other finalists', were turned into holiday cards that can be purchased online. Proceeds will support the Mayor's Holiday Food, Book, and Toy Drive. Residents can also provide their support for the drive by dropping off toys, children’s books, and non-perishable food items at locations throughout Evanston, or by making a financial contribution online or by mail.
"While all four of the artists' designs were creative and fun, Olivia’s card stood out because of its message of peace and its Evanston imagery and winter wonderland feel,” said Mayor Hagerty.
Olivia is a twelve year-old, seventh grader who attends Haven Middle School. She loves the arts, especially drawing and photography, but also loves sports and plays basketball, soccer, volleyball and softball. As an avid volunteer, she has raised over $7,000 for breast cancer research and patient care, and hopes to become a biomedical engineer and physician.
