The City is excited to announce the release of Envision Evanston 2045, our draft comprehensive plan aimed at guiding the growth, development, and prosperity of our community over the next 20 years. This ambitious plan is designed to ensure that Evanston continues to be a thriving and inclusive place to live, work, and play for all.
Thank you to everyone who has participated in this journey so far. Your engagement and input over this past year have been invaluable in shaping the plan to this point. However, we’re not done yet, and your voice is more important than ever.
This draft is a work in progress, and we’re actively seeking feedback to help create the best possible final version. For example, we’ve identified some maps in the draft that do not include all our parks. Rest assured, these parks aren’t slated for redevelopment—they’re simply missing from some of the visuals. This is one of several updates we plan to make, and we invite you to review the draft and share your thoughts on additional improvements.
Make Your Voice Heard
Please complete our survey, available in both English and Spanish, by 11:59 p.m. on December 17. You can also email your comments directly to envisionevanston2045@cityofevanston.org.
Attend a Public Hearing
The first public hearing on this draft will take place during the Land Use Commission meeting on November 20. The Land Use Commission will host multiple hearings, with the final one scheduled for December 18. Please check the City’s online calendar for a complete list of meeting dates.
Looking Ahead to 2025
After these hearings, the City Council will review and vote on the Comprehensive Plan early in 2025. Alongside this plan, we’re also working on updating Evanston’s zoning code. While distinct from the Comprehensive Plan, the zoning code will complement it, and we’ll be asking for your feedback on both.
Thank you for your continued engagement!
