Temporary Building Permit Desk Now Open at the
Robert Crown Community Center
LOCATION: Robert Crown Community Center, Room A (1801 Main St.)
HOURS OF OPERATION: Monday, Tuesday 9am-1pm, 2-4pm
To ensure the safety of visitors and staff, a reservation is required and face coverings must be worn inside the building at all times. Visitors will be subject to a temperature screening upon arrival, and should maintain a physical distance of at least six feet from those outside their household.
Reservations are required for all over-the-counter permits using the City's online reservation system. A 15-minute time slot is required for each permit. Customers who need multiple permits must reserve one time slot per permit to ensure adequate time to complete the process. There is a maximum of four times slots per visit. Walk-ins will not be accepted.
OVER-THE-COUNTER PERMITS ACCEPTED (new forms)
The City highly recommends that permit desk customers email completed applications to firstname.lastname@example.org prior to their scheduled appointment. Those who do not email their completed permit applications ahead of time must bring a hard copy of their completed application with them to their appointment, including all required documents. Incomplete paperwork will not be accepted, and customers will have to schedule another appointment. Any applications that were submitted via email prior to August 3 can also be processed and there is no need to resend the email.
Permits and receipts will be emailed one the permit is processed to limit the exchange between applicants and our staff. Credit cards and checks will be accepted for payment.
PERMITS IN NEED OF REVIEW
Plan review permit applications and all submitted documents shall be sent in pdf format only to email@example.com. All required documents must be sent in a single email or the permit will not be processed. Larger plans that cannot be sent as an email attachment may be sent using dropbox. Dropbox plans must be in one complete pdf (not separate page files) and cannot be password protected for access.
All permits shall be issued with recommended COVID-19 procedures and all workers shall wear face covering while performing work in Evanston.
Inspection requests are being scheduled by 311(847 448-4311 if outside Evanston). Most inspections will be performed remotely via photo/video and the inspectors will provide the resident or contractor direction on what is acceptable to show code compliance.
