Disease Reporting and Information:
Communicable diseases are infectious diseases that are spread from person to person (e.g., Salmonella, whooping cough, chlamydia), from animals to people (e.g., rabies, Lyme Disease), or from the environment to people (e.g. Legionella, tetanus). There are many diseases that are required to be reported to the Evanston Health & Human Services Department. Mandated reporters, such as health care providers, hospitals, and laboratories, must report any suspected or confirmed case of these diseases to the Department within the number of days or hours indicated by Illinois State Law. This timely reporting helps to reduce the number of potential infections and ensure residents receive prompt treatment or notice of exposure. More information can be found on reportable and non-reportable diseases through the Illinois Department of Public Health’s website.
