Community Policing Unit
The Community Policing Unit is part of the Field Operations Division. Community Policing Officers build strong relationships with residents and local businesses through regular, direct contact. They provide proactive and preventive services, including attending neighborhood meetings, conducting security assessments, and delivering safety presentations.
The Community Policing Unit is led by a Commander and a Sergeant. They supervise officers and guide the unit’s work to address quality-of-life concerns, reduce crime, and support residents who want to organize community groups in Evanston.
Officers also assist with citywide issues that require focused attention and targeted problem-solving.
The Department’s Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator is part of the Community Policing Unit. This position manages and supports many of the department’s community programs, including the Community Police Academy.
The Community Policing Unit offers several services and programs.
Security Assessment/Training Request
This service is offered to Evanston residents and businesses. An officer will come to your home or business to assess the vulnerability of your home and address your security concerns. Officers can then provide feedback and or training recommendations.

Speaker Presentation Request
Members of our Community Policing Unit are available for speaking engagements and community events as time permits. Officers are skilled in school safety talks, panel discussions, presentations, and fairs. *Please note that every effort will be made to fulfill requests as resources allow; we reserve the right to decline a request.

Station Tour Request
The Evanston Police Department offers police station tours to local organizations and community groups within Evanston.
Please review the tour guidelines below before submitting your request:

Tours are available Tuesday through Friday

Tours last approximately 1-1.5 hours and include a short briefing, a tour of certain areas in the department, and a Q & A session

Tour requests should be submitted at least two weeks before the preferred date

Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled tour start time

Tours can accommodate up to 20 people total, including chaperones.

The minimum age for station tours is 7 years of age

Tour groups with children are required to have 1 chaperone per 5 children. Example 15 children = 3 chaperones
