Alley Lighting Petition
Alley Lighting Petition
Lights in the alley are installed and maintained by ComEd on their existing utility poles. For existing alley lights that are out, please contact ComEd.
For new alley lights, the approval process requires a resident to coordinate a petition with other property owners abutting the alley. At least fifty-one percent (51%) of properties adjacent to the alley and/or the Ward Alderman must sign the petition. For condominiums and rental properties, one letter of approval from the condominium association or management firm is sufficient to represent all building residents.
Once approved, the applicant will need to contact ComEd to initiate installation. The applicant will be responsible for paying the electricity bill directly to ComEd.
Note: Residents living in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) zones are eligible to be reimbursed for fifty percent (50%) of the annual cost of electricity for the first five (5) years after installation. The applicant must submit the utility bills to Public Works with proof of payment every year during the five years of City reimbursement, if applicable.
The Alley Lighting Petition can be sent to the Public Works Agency when complete.
