The Evanston City Council includes the Mayor and nine City Councilmembers. The Mayor, Councilmembers, and City Clerk serve four-year terms.
The City of Evanston, Illinois is a general purpose municipal government located in Cook County, Illinois. It is a home rule unit, as defined in the 1970 Illinois Constitution, and operates under the Council/Manager form of government.

City Council meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month, with the exception of August and December when only one meeting is scheduled.

City Council meetings are scheduled to begin immediately following the conclusion of the Administration and Public Works or Planning & Development Committee meetings.
Exceptions:

* Monday, May 26, 2025, is Memorial Day; the meeting will be on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

** District 65 and ETHS will be on spring break from March 24 to 28, 2025; the meeting will be held on the 5th Monday of the month.

*** Monday, September 22, 2025, is Rosh Hashanah; the meeting will be held on the 5th Monday of the month.
