Police Officer Applications

Thank you to everyone who submitted an application for Police Officer positions with the Evanston Police Department!  The posting closed on August 30, 2019.  

Next steps include:

  • Passing score on the POWER Test to be administered on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Evanston Township High School
  • Passing score on the Written Examination to be administered on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Northwestern University
  • Passing score on the Subjective Component (dates to be determined)
  • Successful psychological and polygraph evaluations, background check, and medical exam
  • Certification by the Evanston Public Safety Civil Service Commission

Human Resources

Human Resources is the central coordinating point for the filling of all full-time, permanent part-time, temporary, and seasonal positions. Human Resources also provides assistance and guidance to the operating departments and employees in all areas of employment including:

  • recruitment
  • selection
  • position classification
  • salary administration
  • promotion

  • discipline
  • on-the-job injuries and disability
  • labor relations
  • safety

Chosen candidates will be required to provide proof of licenses, certifications, and education required for the position for which they are applying. Candidates will also be subject to qualifying pre-employment processes, including medical examination, drug/alcohol screen, employment verification, and criminal background check.

2019 Police Officer Eligibility List

Preliminary Eligibility List (expires 11/11/2021) - Interviews of persons on the Preliminary Eligibility List will take place, in rank order after preferences are applied, until the list expires or has been exhausted.  Candidates who are eligible to proceed through the hiring process after interviews will be placed on a Final Eligibility List.

2018 Firefighter/Paramedic Eligibility Lists

Final Eligibility List (expires 6/13/2020) - List of candidates by ranked combined score, after application of preference points.  Offers of employment will be made to persons on this Final Eligibility List, in rank order, until the list is exhausted or expires.

Initial Eligibility List (posted 5/21/2018) - List of candidates by ranked combined  score after written exam and oral interviews (preference points to be added).

Other required steps for Police Officers and Firefighters/Paramedics include an oral interview, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, medical screening, background investigation, and final certification by the Civil Service Commission.
