The City of Evanston is seeking applications for Firefighter/Paramedic positions in the Evanston Fire Department. Applications will be received from January 15, 2018 at 9:00AM through February 28, 2018 at 4:00PM by clicking here.
Minimum application requirements include: US citizenship, high school diploma or GED, valid driver's license, and valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) card and Ladder Climb certification by 3/31/18. Preferred qualifications include: Evanston residency, completion of fire cadet or explorer program, paramedic license, active military service, and graduation from a fire academy. See all minimum and preferred qualifications on the application. There will be a $25 non-refundable application fee.
Other required processes:
- Minimum passing score on the Written Exam to be administered on March 31, 2018 at Northwestern University
- Passing score on the subjective component (interviews) to take place the week of April 23, 2018
- Written Exam Information Session (vendor-led) to take place on March 10, 2018 at the Levy Senior Center, 300 Dodge Avenue, Evanston IL 60202 from 9AM-11:30AM
- Written Exam support session (Evanston Fire Department-led) to take place on March 18, 2018 at the Levy Senior Center, 300 Dodge Avenue, Evanston IL 60202 from 9AM-11:30AM
Other required steps include a polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, medical screening, background investigation, and final certification by the Civil Service Commission.
The City's Local Employment Program (LEP) provides assistance to Evanston residents with employment or training opportunities. LEP funds will go towards payment or reimbursement to Evanston residents to take the Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) for the Evanston Fire Department's current hiring process for Firefighter/Paramedic positions.
Payments will be made towards CPATs taken at the Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy (NIPSTA) on February 10, February 24, or March 10, 2018. Only one payment will be made towards a CPAT, regardless of passing results. Eligibility requirements include: 1) proof of Evanston residence, 2) registration for one of the upcoming NIPSTA CPATs, and 3) attendance at the Written Exam on March 31, 2018, with passing CPAT results. Reimbursements for CPATs taken on or after March 31, 2017 for Evanston residents are also available. Only one reimbursement not to exceed $200 will be allowed. Eligibility requirements include: 1) proof of Evanston residence, 2) proof of payment towards a CPAT taken on or after March 31, 2017, 3) proof of CPAT results, and 4) attendance at the Written Exam on March 31, 2018, with passing CPAT results. 2017 Police Officer Eligibility Lists
Preliminary Eligibility List (expires 10/20/2019) - Interviews of persons on the Preliminary Eligibility List will take place, in rank order, until the list expires or has been exhausted. Candidates who are eligible to proceed through the hiring process after interviews will be placed on a Final Eligibility List.
Final Eligibility List (as of 12/4/17) - Offers of employment will be made to persons on each Final Eligibility List, in rank order, until the list is exhausted.
