The Evanston Fire Department maintains a full-time professional staff of 110 members. The staff includes 107 sworn members and three civilian support personnel. In 2018, we responded to 10,014 calls of which 6,419 were Emergency Medical Services and 3,595 were Fire-related.
We exist, 24 hours of every day, to protect life, property and the environment. We will provide superior quality fire suppression, emergency medical services, fire prevention, public education, technical rescue, non- emergency and support services; to prevent or minimize situations that affect the people we serve.
We have five fire stations located throughout the City. The fire stations are staffed 24 hours a day/365 days a year. These stations house five fire engines, two aerial trucks, two ambulances, a heavy rescue squad and a Command Vehicle. We have two reserve fire engines, one reserve aerial truck, and a reserve ambulance. Our members are certified paramedics in addition to being firefighters.
Besides staffing two Advanced Life-Support Ambulances, every engine and aerial truck company is equipped with Advanced Life-Support equipment. This means as soon as an engine or aerial truck arrives, it can begin life-saving treatment even before the ambulance arrives.
Through the overall efforts of the City to support Fire and Life Safety Services, property owners enjoy insurance premium benefits of an Insurance Services Office (ISO) fire protection "Class 1" rating.
